Decorations: all orange and black stuff (basketballs, of course!). We had orange balloons, inflatable orange basketballs, etc. I have to admit that this months theme wasn't quite as decked out bc 1) I was sick and 2) my kids were gone and they usually help me :) (slave labor is cheap)
Snacks: Basketball cupcake cake. Orange icing everywhere but the kids loved it. You can see a pic of that below in the slide show.
Dribble, Jump, Shoot: this is one of those games that I totally loved because it's funny to watch the kids play it. I went to the good ole WalMart and purchased 4X basketball shorts and tank tops. Kids had to put them on, then use a giant orange basketball like this one to dribble to a finish line, jump with the ball in their hands, shoot at a predetermined point with the ball, and then run back with the ball, passing it and their team outfit to the next player. It was fun to watch them all put these huge clothes on.
BasketCase Game: So this is the gift that keeps on giving! You could find a million uses for these in your Children's Ministry. You can see what I mean here.
Basket Pong: Don't judge. We are Nazarene and don't drink but this game looked like fun so I got a guy at church to make me one.
For all our games (except Dribble, Jump, Shoot) we used these because they looked like mini basketballs!!!!
We ended up running way short on time this particular night so I have a TON of the cheese puffs left for another night.
The teaching point of the night was that God has called all of us to play for His team. When Jesus called Matthew, even though Matthew was considered vile by most, Jesus didn't give him a list of instructions first. He simply called him to follow. Jesus wants us to do the same. To follow....He doesn't require anything else.
