We had a fun night with our first ever Monkeys & Bananas Theme Night. Our mid-week director told the kids to all bring their favorite stuff animal-which they all really got into. She also had a funny YouTube clip of a Dancing Ape (dancing to "I Like to Move it") which warmed the kids up as soon as they got into the room.
Teaching: based on Josiah and how he uncovered Scripture during the temple cleanup.
Themed snacks: for the night was monkey bread & banana splits.
Games:
Foot Peel: Kids had to race to see who could unpeel a banana using their feet. Hilarious to watch.
Peel Guess: We took a giant bowl of banana peels around to the kids teams. Each team had to guess the number of peels in the bowl. The closest team was the winner.
Pass the Banana: Laying on their backs in a straight line, (think kids head, kids feet, kids head, kids feet) kids had to pass a banana from the start line to finish using only their feet. This game was awesome to watch. Kids had to basically raise the banana over their bodies using their feet and pass to the team member behind them (whose feet were waiting to grab the banana).
Uncover the bananas: sliced bananas were placed on plates and covered in whipped cream. Kids had to see who could uncover and eat all of their banana slices first.
We had a ton of "raffle" banana themed prizes too that we'd picked up....Little Debbie Banana cakes, etc. The kids loved this part!
KidMIn win for me was that I didn't plan this event!! I have an AWESOME Mid-Week Leader now and she's a rockstar. Thank You, Jesus.
